Your Transmission Specialists
As part of the assemblage that transmits power from the engine to the wheels, your transmission is comprised of some of the most complex and intricate machinery in your vehicle.
Due to their sophisticated nature, even minor problems with your transmission can quickly escalate into extremely costly repairs. If you notice any of the following issues while driving, you may have a problem with your transmission.
- Clunking noises when changing gears, or a constant humming or whining noise
- Delayed response when changing gears
- Burning smell after driving
- Fluid leaking from under the car
- Grinding noises when changing gears
- Bumping noises even when in neutral
- Check engine lights on the dashboard
If you notice any of the problems above, don’t delay, as transmission problems tend to snowball fairly quickly.
As transmission specialists, Thomastown Autos can help you with:
- Automatic Transmissions
- DSG Transmissions
- CVT Transmissions
- Manual Transmissions
- CV Joints
- Clutches

- Repairs and replacement
Logbook Servicing
Whenever you buy a new vehicle, the manufacturer provides you with a warranty that covers you from the cost of parts failures. This warranty is only valid, however, if you have your vehicle periodically serviced by a certified mechanic, who records and stamps these services in your vehicle’s logbook.
There’s a common misconception that if you have your car serviced anywhere but the dealer workshop, you will void your warranty. It’s actually illegal for manufacturers to discriminate based on choice of repairer, as long as you use a certified mechanic.
Here at Thomastown Autos, our skilled mechanics are fully certified to provide logbook servicing for all:
- Petrol vehicles
- Diesel vehicles
- LPG vehicles
- Electric/hybrid vehicles
Roadworthy Certificates & Vehicle Inspections
If you’re planning on selling or otherwise transferring ownership of a vehicle, you have to obtain a roadworthy certificate. The roadworthy certificate is issued by a licensed tester after a thorough inspection that ensures your vehicle meets the legal safety standards to be driven on Victorian roads.
When you’re thinking about a camping trip, or long road trip, we would recommend getting a pre-trip inspection, for this simple reason: would you rather discover an issue with your engine in a mechanic’s workshop where it can be fixed, or out in the middle of nowhere, hundreds of kilometres from help?
Thomastown Autos is a fully licensed tester and can provide roadworthy inspections and pre-trip inspections.

Your brakes are the most important safety system your vehicle has. While other safety systems, such as airbags, only reduce the severity of an accident, your brakes can also act preventatively, and the condition of your brakes is often the deciding factor between an accident and an emergency stop.
Your brakes suffer an astonishing amount of wear, routinely bringing over a tonne of weight to a complete stop from high speeds, multiple times a day. This is why we agree with brake manufacturers that you should have your brakes checked at least once a year.
Here at Thomastown Autos, our skilled technicians can help you with:
- Brake component replacement
- Brake component machining
- Brake hose repairs
- Brake restorations
Steering and Suspension Services
Faults and flaws in your steering and suspension affect handling and ride comfort, causing issues such as play in the steering wheel, vibrations in the wheel at speed, and body lean around corners. Your suspension is also responsible for maximising the grip that your tyres exert on the road surface, so a poor suspension will also increase your stopping distance.
Thomastown Autos’ expert mechanics can help you with:
- Shock absorbers, springs and struts
- Bushing replacement
- Power steering repairs and replacement
Engine Repairs and Services
